🔬 Research Focus

Join Prof. Dr. Christoph Wittmann’s team at the Institute of Systems Biotechnology, a hub of cutting-edge research at the interface of:

• Sustainable Bioeconomy: Microbial systems for renewable raw materials

• Health Biotechnology: Microbial biofactories for biopharmaceuticals and personalized therapeutics

Each PhD position focuses on developing innovative microbial cell factories using tools from molecular biology, systems biotechnology, and metabolic engineering.

🧪 Your Tasks

• Conduct cultivation experiments (batch, fed-batch, chemostats)

• Apply analytical techniques (HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, isotope analysis)

• Genetic engineering and metabolic profiling

• Document and publish research results in English

• Support student supervision and teaching

🎓 Your Profile

• Excellent Master’s degree in biotechnology, systems biology, bioengineering, or related fields

• Experience/knowledge in microbiology, metabolic engineering, fermentation

• Skills in molecular biology and analytical software (preferred)

• High motivation, teamwork, and excellent communication skills (German & English)

• Strong interest in sustainable industrial biotech and bioeconomy
