Join a Leading Plant Science Research Environment in Northern Sweden!
We are excited to announce a 2-year postdoctoral scholarship opportunity at the Department of Plant Physiology, Umeå University — part of the internationally renowned Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC).
This fully funded position is part of the project “Regulation of energy metabolism by the 26S proteasome”, with a focus on plant mitochondrial biology and its role in cellular adaptation and energy regulation during leaf senescence and cell death.
🧪 About the Project:
This research investigates the role of mitochondria as energy hubs in plants, particularly under stress conditions. You’ll work with mutant and transgenic lines, applying molecular biology, biochemistry, confocal microscopy, and plant physiology. Multi-omics techniques and collaborative access to specialized facilities will support your work.
📍 Where:
UPSC (www.upsc.se), one of Europe’s strongest plant science centers, hosting 200+ researchers across a wide range of disciplines — from genetics and biochemistry to stress adaptation and sustainable food systems.
💰 Scholarship Details:
- Funded by Carl Tryggers Foundation (CTS24-3637)
- 336,000 SEK/year, tax-free
- Additional 106,000 SEK/year for running costs
- Start date: October 1, 2025 (flexible)
🎓 Who We’re Looking For:
We welcome motivated candidates with a PhD (or equivalent) in plant genetics, molecular biology, or plant developmental biology.
You should bring:
- Strong skills in plant genetics, molecular techniques, and physiology
- Experience with the 26S proteasome or confocal microscopy is a plus
- Excellent written/oral communication in English
- A collaborative spirit, creativity, and scientific curiosity
📄 How to Apply:
Submit your application via Umeå University’s Varbi e-recruitment portal by September 1, 2025.
Your application should include:
