General Description
NCBS invites applications from outstanding scientists with proven research excellence for faculty positions at various levels. This is a full-time, permanent research position within TIFR. NCBS seeks candidates across the breadth of modern biology, from molecular to ecological scales, and encourages applicants from diverse disciplinary backgrounds including life sciences, medical sciences, physical sciences, chemistry, and mathematics, provided their proposals strongly address fundamental questions in biology.

Candidates will be appointed on a tenure-track pathway. Each new faculty member is assigned a committee of mentors to guide them through the tenure process, which must be initiated no later than 5.5 years after joining. Granting of tenure depends on establishing a strong, independent research program.

Eligibility Criteria

• Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.

• Normally 2–6 years of postdoctoral experience for Reader (Assistant Professor level).

• Senior independent investigators may be considered for Associate Professor level.

• Early-career applicants may also consider the NCBS Young Investigator Programme.

• Applicants of any nationality are welcome.

Required Expertise & Skills
NCBS is particularly interested in researchers working in:

• Neurosciences

• Biodiversity and Conservation

• Computational and Theoretical Biology / Data Science

• Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology, Human Immunology

• Chemical Ecology

However, proposals are not limited to these areas—research interests need not match existing faculty domains. Applicants should demonstrate:

• Ability to design and pursue ambitious, high-impact research programmes.

• Strong publication record.

• Capacity for interdisciplinary collaboration.

• Commitment to academic mentorship and leadership.
