Join Prof. Dr. Christoph Wittmann’s team at the Institute of Systems Biotechnology, a hub of cutting-edge research at the interface of:
- Sustainable Bioeconomy: Microbial systems for renewable raw materials
- Health Biotechnology: Microbial biofactories for biopharmaceuticals and personalized therapeutics
Each PhD position focuses on developing innovative microbial cell factories using tools from molecular biology, systems biotechnology, and metabolic engineering.
🧪 Your Tasks
- Conduct cultivation experiments (batch, fed-batch, chemostats)
- Apply analytical techniques (HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, isotope analysis)
- Genetic engineering and metabolic profiling
- Document and publish research results in English
- Support student supervision and teaching
🎓 Your Profile
- Excellent Master’s degree in biotechnology, systems biology, bioengineering, or related fields
- Experience/knowledge in microbiology, metabolic engineering, fermentation
- Skills in molecular biology and analytical software (preferred)
- High motivation, teamwork, and excellent communication skills (German & English)
- Strong interest in sustainable industrial biotech and bioeconomy
